Session: S03: SYMPOSIUM IN MEMORY OF PROFESSOR RICHARD J. GOLDSTEIN III
Paper Number: 142412
142412 - Gas Turbine Advancement and Evolution
Abstract:
Abstract for the Goldstein Memorial session at the 2024 SHTC.
Speaker: Dr. Sanjay Chopra
Gas turbine Advancement and Evolution:
It is a well-known phenomenon, that Market success has been, and currently is, the prime driver towards pushing the demand for the worldwide power generation and aviation industries; to advance beyond their current technological prowess and continuously drive the overall enhancement for efficient, clean, robust, and greater power and thrust generating equipment.
Technology advancements for the prime power generating machines, gas and steam turbines have been evolving for decades.
However, it is not until recently that full awareness and focus of addressing fuel cost, availability and a greater demand for RAM, flexibility, and most of all addressing environmental concerns, such as reduction of carbon footprint, that have prompted an exponential shift in applied technologies and hence have become Critical to quality parameters towards achieving overall success in the field of power generation.
The essence and major focus of this lecture is to share from a “public domain” perspective; a generic overview of the various technology evolutions that have taken place over the decades in the industries , heavily contributed by various OEM’s, academia, governmental agencies and concerned individuals all working toward epitomizing the advancement of critical technologies leading towards addressing the need for optimal, cost effective and clean energy production and hence helping mankind in achieving their fundamental requirements towards growth, productivity and most of all sustainable stability…
